A Study On The Information Services Of Provincial Scientific And Technical Information Institutes’ Websites

With the advancement of the informatization construction in our country, scientific andtechnical information service industry has got rapid development; the role of scientific andtechnical information research institutions has become increasingly important. Provincialscientific and technical information institutes’ websites provide a platform for these regionalinformation services. The quality and efficiency of these information services directly affectthe information institute’s business. At present, there are still some upgrades andimprovements need to join in China’s science and technology information institute’s websites,such as the resource structure, online information services, web interface usability andtimeliness of information and so on.The subject of this article is provincial scientific and technical information institutions’websites, on the base of the elements of network research, makes an investigation on thestatus of the site to carry out information services, and suggests improvements for theproblems. Combined with the theory of website evaluation, and the examples of networkservices on the websites of Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, thee-government sites, libraries and archives websites, the paper created the project of theinformation services research, which included the research object, time, content and method.Then, the paper established a set of indicator system of information services’ content,including2first class indicators,8second class indicators and29third class indicators. Theevaluation indicator system can provide references which basis for the implementation of thewebsites’ information services research.According to the content of the research project, and the reference of provincial scientificand technical information institutions’ business, this article carried out the research from thecontent of information services and the performance of information services’ platform, andthen analyzed the statistical results and the service status of provincial scientific and technicalinformation institutions’ websites. Finally, the paper provided a reference for theimprovement of the provincial scientific and technical information institutions’ informationservice from service awareness, website construction and content development. The paperalso provides a reference, and lays the foundation for further study.
