Research On The Information Service To Informal Scientific Communication

Informal scientific communication process is a very important part of scientific communication system. E-mail, e-print archive, BBS, blog, and video conference have become the indispensable ways of communication for researchers. With the development of digital and network technology, the informal scientific communication process shows a tendency of revival. However, the informal scientific communication process is supported poorly by scholarly information service system, comparing with the fact of the revival of informal scientific communication process. This has weakened the function of entire scientific communication system and hindered the efficiency of scientific communication. In order to improve the scientific communication system, it must change the present situation and bring the informal scientific communication into the scholarly information service system (SISS).This article started with the general scientific communication theory, and discussed the necessity and feasibility of bringing the informal scientific communication into SISS. By analyzing the characters of informal scientific communication under Internet environment, this article constructed an informal scientific communication information service system and proposed some service modes, also some advises about how library should react to the informal scientific communication were given.This article is divided into six parts. Part 1 introduced the background of this article, the significance of this research, the research status, the research content and research approach. Part 2 introduced the general scientific communication theory, discussed the background factors of this theory and its effects on science & technology information service. Part 3 discussed the concept of scholarly information service system (SISS) and distinguishing the developing stages of SISS, the user-centered was considered as the development trend. Part 4 analyzed some characters of informal scientific communication under digital environment and investigated the necessity and feasibility of the construction of informal scientific communication information service system. Then a simple but typical system mode was proposed. Part 5 discussed the subjects of this system and summarized three service modes which are navigation mode, platform mode and knowledge management mode. And some suggestions about how the academic libraries should react with informal scientific communication information service were also proposed. Part 6 analyzed some typical informal scientific information service cases.
