Image acquisition and transmission technology was used widely in many fields,such as consumer electronics, industrial control, traffic road, military defense, medicaland medical fields. Most of the traditional image acquisition and transmission systemis comprised of PC and image acquisition card. And by building private network toacquisition and transmission the image. The structure of the traditional imageacquisition and transmission system structure is more complex, the systemmaintenance is difficult and expensive and the transmission distance is short.With the rapid development of digital information technology, people want toknow the status of the filed target in anytime and anywhere, the traditional imageacquisition and transmission system has been difficult to meet people’s requirements.the emergence of the digital home, people is more and more urgent to the demand forthe image and its transmission. Based on this background, the paper presents a designscheme of embedded image transmission system based on the GPRS/GSM. While theGPRS network congestion is busy, the acquisition of image data can not be transferred,resulting in loss of data, the system defaults to use GPRS to transfer the image data.Only when the GPRS network congestion is busy, the system uses the GSM networkto transmit the image data. The system consists of the processor module, memorymodule, GPRS module, the USB camera module, and other peripheral hardware,realizes image acquisition, storage, compression and transmission.Firstly, this paper gives us a brief introduction and analysis about the presentsituation of the image transmission system and the embedded system. And comparethe traditional wired image transmission system with embedded wireless imagetransmission system. Then, the design of the system is put forward based onGPRS/GSM network, embedded processors, USB camera, and given the conditions ofGPRS and GSM network cutover. And then, according to the determination scheme,the paper gives a detailed implementation. The first stage: building embedded Linuxsystem platform, including hardware and software platform to build, including theFeatures of system processor module, the wireless transmission module, imageacquisition module, the memory modules as well as modules communication;building the software platform, include the transplantation of system boot procedurebootloader, the Linux kernel, as well as the RAMDISK file system. The second stage:achieving image acquisition and compression; used the0V7620USB camera V2000to acquisition image, completed the compilation and loading of the USB cameradriver and image acquisition software design, use based on the DCT JPEG imagecompression algorithm to compress the acquired image. The third stage: the design ofthe image transfer software; image transmission side and server side using GPRS/GSM way communication, two ways to transfer data: connection oriented socketnetwork programming and GSM network to provide short message service, achievedTCP/IP, PPP protocol transplant and Socket network programming as well as short message program. Finally is system test result.
