Fan Yong is a prominent contemporary editor, publisher and binding designer. As apioneer in the field, he edited and published numerous books. His classical work influencedgenerations of readers. This thesis is based on Fan Yong’s contribution to the Chinesepublishing industry.He worked in the publishing industry for more than seventy years, during which heformed unique ideology. Using contrast, comparison, and analysis, this thesis objectivelysummarizes Fan Yong’s philosophy in publishing, management, and binding design. Thisthesis analyzes the formation of his ideology from a historic perspective and what thepublishing industry can learn from his success.Fan Yong leaded the readers to widen their sights and pursued the cultural value of books.Fan Yong emphasized on the uniqueness of the design in book binding. As a leader in thepress, he focused on employee-management, publisher-author relation and publicity. FanYong’s contribution has exerted a significant influence on the publishing industry.His wholelife for books,writers and readers encouraged the publishers to assume cultural responsibilityand be friends of writers and readers.Fan Yong’s ideology applied to the current era. By analyzing his philosophy andcontribution, this thesis aims to encourage the publishers to pursue their uniqueness, developtheir creativity, and contribute to development of the publishing profession.
