Study On Literary Classics Reading With University Ideas Re-examined

A university should be a place for young people experiencing life and seeking help. It helps them cultivate some intellectual, spiritual and aesthetic qualities and helps them grow up in efforts to reach self-awareness and self-understanding. Literary classics bears the above values, providing approaches of understanding and roads toward cultural salvation in this process. However, in the era of globalization, big industry and industrialization model and mass consumption more and more create the "entertainment kingdom" filled with sensory stimuli, desire and games without rules.Under such background, this thesis, taking a university as an example, tries to use quantitative analytic model and then illustrates the current situation of classics reading. Through analysis, current situation of classics reading on campus can be concluded as follows:first, classics reading becomes subject; second, although undergraduates generally owns value identity on literary classics, reading pragmatism is obvious; third, in the Internet era, undergraduates students’ concentration on classics reading is disappearing; fourth, interest on classics reading itself is constantly losing and descending to a contest competing for credits. Correspondently, higher education reflects four levels of crisis, namely crisis on university ideals dispersing at spiritual level; crisis on the monopoly position of university knowledge eroding at intellectual material levels; crisis on elements not being integrated at academic level; alienation crisis on teaching, research and service function at university functional level.Value pursuit of technicalization and materialization is undermining people’s virtue and existence foundation. And it not only erases an individual’s depth of life, but alienates human being themselves into stage property for its action. People are indifferent to the source of justice, spirit and wisdom, but care about immediate interests and benefits. The destiny of literary classics reflected on higher education and professional education, but more to the most common ideological problems, which own enough constitute the cultural crisis in our human society.
