Chinese higher education system restarted after resuming college entrance examinations.College student organizations, which are the major platform for college student studying,exchanging experience and participating in social activities, are both the carrier of collegeadministration and the main way of college student self-management. However, thedevelopment of college student organizations is deeply influenced by Chinese socialbackground and the various developmental stages of Chinese college. Continuousimprovement and pursuit of excellence is the eternal theme of college student organizations’transformation during the early years of reform and opening-up and the market economyperiod.The history of the development and transformation of student organizations is just likethe history of Chinese social change. The association between Chinese college studentorganizations and its political situation is so closed that political changes will influence theoperation of the student organizations rapidly. Under the influence of dual system, collegestudent organizations are regarded as management tools. In the aspects of organizationalsystem, personnel selection and launch activities, student organizations, tending tocompromise, do not reflect their autonomy and ignore their members’ social demand.To amend and ameliorate the existing student organizations, first of all, clear definitionof their concept, analysis of their features and classification of their categories are necessary.Secondly, selecting different types of student organizations and sorting out of their historicaldevelopment vein respectively, to conclude the overall pattern of their development hasgradually evolved from bureaucracy into the flat organizational structure. The organizationalfunction has developed from the single political education in the early years of reform andopening-up to all-round quality education nowadays. At last, according to the problemscaused during the transformation of student organizations and how they accommodating tocollege students under the contemporary background, three constructive measures areproposed. The first one is to encourage the diversified development of the studentorganizations by supporting diverse organizational structure multi-dimensionally, reinforcingthe organizational service function and the project management model. The second one is to strengthen the student organizations autonomy by learning from experience of independentstatus of the western developed countries’ student organizations, implementing democraticdecisions and broadening the funds-raising channels. The third one is to promote the studentorganizations socialization by encouraging the interaction between the organizations and thesociety, focusing on the psychological changes of students in the campus and cultivatingtheir career awareness under the influence of student organizations.The purpose and significance of studying the development and transformation ofstudent organizations is to make the organizations well matched with college students andadapt to their changes in organizations requirements, to play a functional role in theeducational field effectively.
