A Report On The Translation Of BHUTAN——THE ROAR OF THE THUNDER DRAGON (Part Ⅱ)

This report is based on the practice of translation for the second part of BHUTAN——THE ROAR OF THE THUNDER DRAGON. It carries out relatively systematical analysis and comprehensive studies about the translation principle and translation skills of informative texts, and introduces the application of communicative translation in the whole process in detail.The English translator, translation theorist Newmark divided texts into three types, namely expressive, informative and vocative. The translation of different types of text need different translation strategies. The main contents of the second part of BHUTAN——THE ROAR OF THE THUNDER DRAGON include the history, politics, ethnic issues, diplomacy, etc. So the text is informative text. According to Newmark’s theory, the author chooses communicative translation as the guiding principle. The translation of the whole book has been completed by the author and the other three group members. The group members proofread and modify the translation repeatedly. During this process, the author has a certain understanding of the translation principle and translation skills of informative texts. That’s the purpose of this report:to share her experience about the translation of informative texts with other translators.According to the type of the text——informative text, the author choose communicative translation as the guiding theory. And translation methods used in the translation process include:free translation, literal translation plus annotation, transliteration plus annotation, affirmative or negative expression, division translation, contextual amplification and omission, translating in the reverse order and transformation. With representative examples, the report introduces the application of communicative translation in the translation process. At the end of this report, the author summarizes the experience and problems of this project.
