This report is based on the translation project cooperated by College of Foreign Studies of Guangxi Normal University and Guangxi Normal University Press, and is an analysis of the performance of the project. The aim of the project is the English-Chinese translation of the book BHUTAN-THE ROAR OF THE THUNDER DRAGON written by a Bhutanese Lyonpo Om Pradhan. In view of the length (about one hundred thousand words), this project is accomplished by the team work of the translation group consisted by the author and another three classmates.Prior to the translation, much background information is collected and read. By detecting the functions and type of the original text and the expected feature of the target text, a general translation strategy is made in accordance with Reiss’ text typology. During the translating process, various translation skills such as transliteration, literal translation, free translation, following the original syntactic order, reinventing sentences structures and converting word class are comprehensively applied to achieve precision and fluency, as well as the interchange in terms of both language and culture. After the completion of the first version, the group members improved the translation over and over to enhance its quality.The first part of the report gives an introduction to the source, aim and significance of the translation project, as well as the accomplishing process including the arrangement of personnel, the preparation work before translating and the translating course. Next is the introduction of main point of the original text and the analysis of its language feature and text type. The most import part of the report explores the main approaches used in the translation practice with representative examples. The last part is the conclusion summarizing the experiences and deficiencies during the translation.
