The translation-project materials are chapters selected from the three books:Mennonites in China, Seeking Peace-My Journey, and BAMBOO LEAVES-A ChinaReader. All these books have documented Mennonites member’s activities when theywere in China in the period from the first half of nineteen’s century to the twenty-firstcentury. The report consists of four chapters. Chapter One is an introduction of theproject. Chapter Two is a description of the translation process. Chapter Three focuseson case analysis for the purpose of solving practical translation issues. The translatorprobes into hard-to-translate words and expressions, based on some translation theories,and together with some translation methods including Choice and Extension ofMeaning, Amplification and Omission, Conversion, Positive and Negative Expression.The last chapter sums up this translation project, which has not only enhanced thetranslator’s translation competence, but also updated the understanding for anintegration of translation theory with practice. |
