Over recent years the explosive growth of globalization and regional integration has fueled the increasing demand for multilingual communication in which interpreters play an important role. Interpreting as a profession is challenging and cannot be learned from theoretical knowledge alone, but only through a combination of study and steady practice. For student interpreters, besides language proficiency, they should optimize their spare time to do some interpreting practice to gain interpreting skills. This report is based on the author’s interpreting experience in Jinan Arrow Machinery Company from March4th to March16th,2013. In this report, the author first gives a brief description to the interpreting project, including the client of the interpreting service, task information and the English test; then she describes the whole interpreting process which includes preparations before the project, four difficulties in the process and their coping strategies; Later she illustrates interpreter’s subjectivity and how she adopted it into her own interpreting practice in three different situations. Finally the author reports the feedback given by the company as well as the author’s reflections on her interpreting work. In addition, the author also analyzes her weaknesses and the ways for improvement. The author stresses that, besides good language proficiency, successful interpreting comes from a perfect combination of five major factors, namely enthusiasm towards interpreting work, good preparation, flexibility, good psychological quality and flexible use of interpreter’s subjectivity. Besides, the author also points out that actual practice is an indispensable part to theoretical learning in class. Thus students from MTI program should be encouraged to practice more so as to be better prepared for the future work. By writing this report, the author wants to show the teachers how she has applied her subjectivity to her actual interpreting and what she has learned from this interpreting experience. She firmly believes that this will be valuable guidance for her future interpreting work.
