A Practice Report On The Event Of Makeup Brand MAC

As the market is increasingly globalized,more and more international cosmetics brands are entering China,and Chinese women are ceaselessly seeking better cosmetics products.To meet demands and promote sales,cosmetics brands would hold promotional events with malls.The interpreting practice originated from an event held by MAC,a cosmetics brand,in a shopping mall.The event was aimed to promote brand products and spread cosmetics knowledge.In the event,a professional makeup artist of this brand from America was invited by the brand to give a makeup tutorial with demonstration on a model’s face.The author served as the interpreter for the makeup artist.In this report of the interpreting activity,the author illustrated how she did the advance preparation based on the background and requirements of the task.During the interpreting process,the author came across a range of difficulties and problems,such as the interpreting of terminology,the cultural and aesthetic differences,the balance between faithfulness and effectiveness,the mistakes caused by nervousness,etc.The author believes solving these problems is of great significance to a higher interpretation quality.Upon introspecting on these problems,a series of interpreting approaches are suggested,such as addition,omission,and adapting to customer psychology.Based on the introspection and summary of the practice in this event,it is proposed that a thorough advance preparation including on-site preparation and a proficient note-taking mean a lot to interpreting practices.Overcoming nervousness,controlling voice and tone,and guiding practice by theoretic strategies are also critical to a successful interpretation.
