Difficulties And Relevant Strategies In Business Interpreting

After the People's Republic of China was founded,the government continued to provide qualified personnel to support the construction of Africa.At that time,CCECC(China Civil Engineering Construction Company,CCECC for short)contracted the largest foreign aid project——Tanzania-Zambia Railway.CCECC has established a department named CCECC Capital,which will focus on the investment financing field in the overseas market.And it started to enter the European market and it would seek new opportunities in Africa as well.Thus,it held meetings with a company from Germany and Standard Bank in South Africa.Business interpreters should expect to meet various complicated circumstances.They should try their best to figure out the coping tactics for resolving difficulties they encounter so as to facilitate the business communication.In this report,based on the business liaison interpreting and conference interpreting conducted by the author for the CCECC,the author gives a brief description of the interpretation task,interpretation process,and explores her performance of on-site business interpretation by case analysis.Finally,the author concludes four main difficulties in the interpreting: the interpreting of numerals,syntactical differences,heavy accent,and fuzzy information.And based on skopos theory,she concluded several coping strategies including summarization,omission,explanation,and contextual reading.The last part contains the major findings,limitations and suggestions for future studies.The author sincerely hopes that this report will be of some use to the interpreting practices.
