| This practice report is built on the basis of the consecutive interpreting service the author provided to a public lecture entitled “How can one Elicit Student’s Interest in Learning: Task-based Language Teaching Methodology”.In this thesis, the author analyzed the defects in the interpretation from the perspectives of Gile’s Effort Model for CI.Related terms were sorted out and a glossary with notes for terminologies on task-based language teaching method was prepared beforehand. The author figured that she had made full preparation for the consecutive interpreting. However, throughout the whole process of the consecutive interpreting for the lecture,it has been found that at the most of the times, the author stayed in a state of cognition saturation.According to Gile’s Effort Model for CI,interpreters need to strike a balance among the aspects of listening,note-taking,short-term memory and coordination to achieve the optimum interpretation. In order to have better performance in consecutive interpreting in the future, the author analyzed defects in this interpretation performance in this report. In addition, this thesis introduced how the author deployed coping strategies such as addition, paraphrasing, omission to make production smoother. It is hoped by reflection of this CI experience, and deeper studying of Gile’s Effort Model for CI,a more solid ground will be laid for the author’s future interpreting career. The author will be more than flattered if this thesis will be of any help to interpreting-lovers. |
