Antonyms as an important part of Chinese vocabulary system, whether inwritten or spoken language which has a high frequency of use. Antonyms is used in awide range and diverse usages, which is difficult for people who learn Chinese."Duo" and "Shao" as a pair of common antonyms, scholars have given a lot ofattention and have studied these two words a lot from the aspect of Chinese language.But “duo” and “shao” rarely have been studied from the perspective of teachingChinese as a second language. To Chinese leaners, the importance of “duo” and“shao” can not be ignored for the frequently usage.The main part of the article is divided into two parts. The first part analyses thesymmetry and asymmetry of “duo” and “shao” from the achievement of Chineselanguage. This part analyses the symmetry from three angels, including lexicalsymmetry, syntactic symmetry and symmetry of the combination of “duo” and“shao” and the verb. This part also comprehensively analyses the asymmetry of“duo” and “shao”. There are three aspects, semantic asymmetry, syntacticasymmetry specifically including asymmetry of “duo” and “shao” as advertical,compliment and attribute, and pragmatic asymmetry.The second part is the point of the article. It analyses the asymmetry of “duo”and “shao” from the perspective of teaching Chinese as a second language. Thearticle has studied the bias of “duo” and “shao” during the process of learningChinese. The article chose an outstanding textbook named “New Practical ChineseReader”, and counted the usage of “duo” and “shao” in this textbook. At the end,proposed some teaching suggestions which are based on the information above.
