| Since the1990s, there are large numbers of scholars have researched thesymmetry and asymmetry of “Duoâ€ã€â€œShaoâ€ã€â€œDaâ€ã€â€œXiaoâ€. The contents of theresearch results mainly centre on three respects: the symmetry and asymmetry of“Duo†and “Daâ€ã€the symmetry and asymmetry of “Shao†and “Xiaoâ€ã€the metaphorof “Da†and “Xiao†and the meaning of “Duo Shaoâ€. These three contents aredifferent. The scholars researched the symmetry of “Duo†and “Daâ€ã€â€œShao†and“Xiao†originate from their distributions in phrases and sentences, including analyzespecial structures, the metaphor meaning of “Daâ€ã€â€œXiao†mainly originate fromspecially designated structures and comparisons of Chinese and foreign languages.Basically, former scholars have appeared the uses of “Duoâ€ã€â€œShaoâ€ã€â€œDaâ€ã€â€œXiao†and symmetric or asymmetry of some structures, but previous researches justdescribe the phenomenon, which lack explanations. Some research results haveexplain the symmetry and asymmetry, but falling into circle arguments. The exchangeuse of “Duo†and “Daâ€ã€â€œShao†and “Xiao†has not involved in the documentations. Some scholars had ever mentioned that “bu duo†and “hen duo†are the same, so are“bu shao†and “hen shaoâ€, explains the measure of “Duo†and “Shao†withoutexplaining the exchange use. Former scholars did not talk about the exchange useamong “hen duo†and “hen daâ€ã€â€œhen shao†and “hen xiaoâ€.This academic thesis includes three questions. The first one will depend onPerking University’s Corpusã€<Dictionary of Modern Chinese Dialect>and EnglishNation Corpus to analyze and compare the exchange use of “Duo†and “Daâ€ã€â€œShaoâ€and “Xiao†through meaning. The second one will analyze the meaning when “Duoâ€and “Shao†become interrogative pronoun. The third one will explain the reasons ofexchange use.In our options, modern Chinese and localisms have phenomenon of exchange of“Duo†and “Daâ€ã€â€œShao†and “Xiaoâ€. But they have differences: Firstly, symmetry ofexchange concentrates on the meaning of quantity, comparison, change, lost andacquisition in modern Chinese; Secondly, localisms symmetry of exchangeconcentrates on the meaning of quantity, beyond and less. Either does English. |
