ObjectiveTo compare the therapeutic effects of the Thermal Sensitive Moxibustion with the effects of the Traditional Moxibustion in the treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis of wind-cold-dampness syndrome.Methods60 patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis who met the standards of this study were divided into two groups randomly. Each group got 30 patients. The treatment group received the therapy of the Thermal Sensitive Moxibustion, while the control group received the therapy of the Traditional Moxibustion. Patients in both two groups were in much the same condition. The two groups of patients got the treatment three times a week, and four weeks were a course of treatment. The treatment was proceeded under a general same condition of the patients’basic information. According to the curative effect standard of scapulohumeral periarthritis in Guidelines for Clinical Research on New Drugs of Traditional Chinese Medicine and combined with the Constant-Murley Shoulder Joint Function Evaluation Standard, the patients’ shoulder pain, activities of daily living(ADL), range of motion(ROM) and manual muscle testing(MMT) were evaluated. After the end of the study, data were recorded and analyzed by the SPSS19.0.Results1. The age, gender, course of disease and shoulder joint function evaluation of the patients had no statistically significant difference(P> 0.05) before the treatment. The control group was comparable to the treatment group.2. Compared two groups of patients with shoulder function evaluation, the treatment group got a higher total score than the control group after a course of treatment, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).3. The details in the shoulder function rating scale had statistically significant difference between two groups (P<0.05) after a course of treatment and the scores of each detail were higher than it was before treatment. That means both two kind of therapies can reduce pain, dysfunction and the limited joint mobility. The treatment group had a better therapeutic effect than the control group.4. In the treatment group,4 cases were cured,12 cases markedly effective, 12 cases improved and 2 cases failed. The cured and markedly effective rate was 53.33% and the effective rate was 93.33%. In the control group,2 cases were cured,7 cases markedly effective,14 cases improved and 7 cases failed. The cured and markedly effective rate was 30% and the effective rate was 76.67%. Comparing the clinical effects between two groups after treatment, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). The treatment group had a better therapeutic effect than the control group.ConclusionPatients with scapulohumeral periarthritis had shoulder pain, dysfunction and the limited joint mobility, which severely impacts on the quality of daily life. The Thermal Sensitive Moxibustion and the Traditional Moxibustion both have significant effects on clinical treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis of wind-cold-dampness syndrome. The Thermal Sensitive Moxibustion did better than the Traditional Moxibustion in reducing pain, dysfunction and the limited joint mobility. The Thermal Sensitive Moxibustion therapy in clinical operation is convenient and safe, so it is worthy to be popularized in clinical application.
