Objective:The purpose of is study was to describe the status of health literacy and health risk behaviors with middle school students in Yanji, and analysis the difference of health literacy and health risk behaviors among demographic characteristics, and to definite the relationship between health literacy and health risk behaviors.Methods:The study was non-experimental research design with correlation reasearch, which used random sampling and Stratified cluster sampling method. One of Korean" and Chinese middle school from ten Yanji middle schools are separately chosen with random. Grade is the second unit of sampling. Student of the ninth grade busily study so that seventh and eighth grades were involved in the survey. We had investigated 800 students with structured questionnaires, and received 790 effective questionnaires, there were 98.8% efficiency. The questionnaire includes the social demographic characteristics, health literacy assessment scale, and health risk behavior assessment scale. Database was built with Epi Date 3.1. The data is entered by two persons and analyzed with SPSS 17.0. The social demographic characteristics and health literacy are described with percentage, mean, standard deviation etc. T-test and One-Way ANOVA are used to compare the level of the health literacy and health risk behaviors among demographic characteristics. The Pearson correlation analysis and chi-square test are used to analysis the correlation between health literacy and health risk behaviors.Results:l.The demographic characteristics of middle school students in YanjiTotally 790 students were involved in this study. There are 53.7% of boys and 46.3% of girls, and Korean students are 58.7% and Chinese students are 41.3%. The percentage of seventh and eighth grade students are 50% and 50%. According to the academic performance,33.2% of students are. excellent,38.5% are medium, and 28.4% are poor. Left-behind students are 59.0%, ordinary students are 41.0%. Father, mother or parents as guardian are 60.4%, grandparents as guardian are 16.1%, other relatives as guardian are 10.0%, brother and sister as guardian are 8.9% and live alone or live in the dorm are 4.6%.2.The status of health literacy of middle school students in YanjiMiddle school students of Yanji have good health literacy accounted for 21.4%. The students have Good basic knowledge and concepts of health literacy were 19.2%, and have good healthy lifestyle and behaviors were 16.7%, and have basic skills of good health were 20.8%. The students who have good health literacy were 8.4%, normal levels of health literacy are 13.0%, and low level of health literacy were 78.6%. There are statistically significant differences in total and each dimensions of health literacy among gender, race, academic performance, and the different types of guardianship (P≤0.05).3. The status of health risk behaviors of middle school students in Yanji57.3% of middle school students in Yanji had reported to lack of exercise. The rate of violated traffic rules when walking in the streets and rode on a bicycle was 35.4% and 49.6%, and 13.5% of students had reported that swam in non-swimming areas. The students had fight with others were 20.6%. The rate of feelings of insecurity were 25.9%. Students with suicidal ideation, plan and suicide attempts were 14.7%,8.6% and 2.5%. The rate of planning run away from home are 19.9%, and student had experience of ran away from home were 12.9%. The student feel of loneliness, learning pressure, insomnia and depressed were 19.6%,23.7%,19.4% and 15.7%. The rate of internet addiction were 14.4%.6.8% of students had watched pornography.4. The relevance of health literacy and health risk behaviors.There are statistically significant negative correlation between health literacy and health risk behaviors(p≤0.01), The students who have higher level of health literacy’ with lower incidence of health risk behaviors.Conclusion:The level of health literacy of middle school students in Yanji was low, the levels of three dimensions of health literacy was also low. The incidence of health risk behaviors was higher among middle school students in Yanji. The incidence rates of several common health risk behaviors were higher than those in other regions of China. The gender, grade, race, academic achievement and stuation of left-behind were the major influence factors of health literacy and health risk behaviors of middle school students in Yanji. There are negative correlation between health literacy and health risk behaviors.
