Objective:By conducting a preliminary investigation of hearing loss among the elderly population in community of Shihezi City, we can draw prevalence, explore the related factors affecting the elderly hearing loss and provide a scientific basis for the large-scale survey in the future of the region and develop control strategies. Methods:A stratified random cluster sampling method to extract800people over the age of60from30community of Shihezi City, then conducted a cross-sectional survey, obtained a valid sample of648cases, the response rate was81.0%, and310were male, accounting for47.8%,338were women, accounting for52.2%. Danish MADSEN ITERA audiometer were used to measured ears’0.5kHz,1kHz,2kHz,4kHz hearing threshold, examined fasting blood glucose, triglycerides and total cholesterol blood. Taking the average hearing threshold of4kHz hearing threshold as the dependent variable respectively; taking age, gender, marital, educational level, occupation, as independent variables, taking the average data of better hearing ears’0.5kHz,1kHz,2kHz as the average hearing threshold. The data were analyzed by t-test, analysis of variance, chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. Results:According to the WHO standard,391people with hearing loss among648people, accounting for60.3%of the surveyed, among the297people with mild hearing loss,78people were moderate, followed by10people severe and6people very severe. Univariate analysis showed that age, sex, marriage, education level and income situation were related to the average hearing threshold. Age, sex, marriage, education level, cholesterol and triglycerides were related to4kHz hearing threshold, high income levels are protective factors. Conclusion:Community of Shihezi City elderly hearing loss and the prevalence of hearing disability related to a variety of factors is high, related to Age, sex, marriage, education level, cholesterol and triglycerides. Development and implementation of the scientific prevention and rehabilitation programs are very necessary and urgent.
