Objective To investigate the level and epidemic features of job burnout in nurses from different groups in Hefei and the relationship of nurses'job burnout with general self-efficacy and self-esteem to provide an aid for intervention of job burnout problem.Methods 462 nurses were randomly selected. The MBI-HSS,GSES, SES were administered to measure job burnout, general self-efficacy and self-esteem respectively.Results (1) General Self-efficacy and self-esteem have significantly positive correlation with personal accomplishment(r =0.326, r = 0.343,p<0.01), but have negative correlation with emotional exhaustion(r=-0.255, r =-0.144,p<0.01). There is significantly negative correlation between depersonalization and self-Esteem(r=-0.219,p<0.01). (2) Stepwise regression analysis suggested that self-efficacy and self-esteem are important forecast factors to job burnout. (3) In nurses with different job titles and different positions, associate-chief nurse and head nurse had the highest level of self-achievement, while senior nurse having the lowest level of self-achievement. Nurses in different age groups and different standing groups had significant different scores of self-achievement. The nurses who are younger than 30 or the nurses whose standings are shorter than 10 years had the lowest level of self-achievement. Emotional exhaustion of the nurses who were on more night duty are serious. The nurses with lower income had the lower level of self-achievement. There were no differences of job burnout among nurses with different marriage status. The scores of every dimensions of job burnout were the same in various departments.Conclusion (1)Fresh nurses, those working in surgical department,in obstetrics and gynecology department, nurses with lower income and nightshift were vulnerable to job burnout .Managers should pay more attention to them.. (2)Nurses with low general self-efficacy are more prone to depersonalization than the ones with high general self-efficacy. Job burnout is greater among nurses who have low self-Esteem rather than the ones with high self-esteem. More attentions should be paid to the job burnout problem of nurses , and their personality characteristics should be taken into consideration.
