Objective: To understand the occupational stress and sleep quality conditions of mental workers. And study the relationship between occupational stress and sleep quality from neurotransmitters and genetic level. Methods:1500 participants sampled with stratified cluster random methods were asked by questionnaires on occupational stress and sleep quality, of which 200(15%) subjects were extracted randomly to test the content of serotonin(5-HT) and of which 408(30%)subjects were extracted randomly for the gene polymorphism analysis of T102 C and A-1438 G gene loci of 5-HT2 A receptor. Results:1.Occupational stress The conditions of occupational stress were different in gender, age, occupation, working years and professional title in mental workers(P<0.05).But the condition of occupational stress was not different in ethnic in mental workers(P>0.05).And there were not differences on gender, age, ethnic, occupation, working years and professional title in different occupational stress groups of mental workers(P>0.05). 2.Sleep quality The sleep quality condition of mental workers was compared with national norm, except the sleep time, other factors’ scores were higher than the national norm(P<0.05).The sleep problem incidence of mental workers was 27.46% in this investigation. There were not differences on gender, age, ethnic, occupation, working years and professional title in different sleep quality groups of mental workers(P>0.05).3.Relationship between occupational stress and sleep quality The sleep quality of mental workers were poor with increasing occupational stress degree(P<0.05).The sleep quality component scores correlated positively with the each dimension of job stress, job pressure and lack of organizational support and correlated inversely with sleep efficiency(P<0.05).Logistic regression showed that risk factors of sleep quality were marital status, income, strength and frequency of occupational stress. 4.Relationship belong 5-HT, occupational stress and sleep quality ①There were differences on the level of 5-HT in different occupational stress groups and different sleep quality groups(P<0.05).②Correlation analysis showed that the level of 5-HT correlated positively with the part factors of occupational stress and sleep quality(P<0.05).③Logistic regression showed that risk factors of sleep quality were age, frequency of occupational stress, frequency of job pressure and the level of 5-HT.5.Relationship belong 5-HT2 A receptor gene polymorphism, occupational stress and sleep quality The genotype and allele frequency distribution of T102 C and A-1438 G gene locus were not different in different occupational stress groups. But there were significant differences in different sleep quality groups. The T102C’s T allele and A1438G’s G allele might be risky alleles, and they were both mutant. The linkage disequilibrium analysis of T102 C and A-1438 G gene loci showed that A1438G- T102C’s(A-C) and(G-T) haploid types(OR = 0.699, Ps = 0.016; OR =1.513, Ps = 0.005) were statistically significant. The former was protecting haploid type, and the latter was risky haploid type. Conclusion: The occupational stress condition of mental workers is severe. With the increasing of occupational stress, the sleep quality presents the downward trend. While the corresponding change of neurotransmitter levels will happen. Factors which can affect the sleep quality are age, marital status, income, strength and frequency of occupational stress, frequency of job pressure and 5-HT. In addition, the gene polymorphism analysis shows that sleep quality is related with T102 C and A-1438 G gene loci of 5-HT2 A receptor.
