Objectives:This study conducted a questionnaire survey in changsha hospital nurses, examine the incidence, frequency and contributing factors to workplace violence among nurses, and make recommendations on the feasibility and countermeasures based on the results, identify the existing policies and the management modalities to tackle workplace violence.Method:A descriptive design was used.800 nurses working in 5 Grade A hospitals of Changsha were recruited,tooking back 778 effective questionnaires.The Modified Version of Hospital Workplace Violence questionnaire developed by Wang shengyong was used to collect data.The data were established by EpiData 3.1, analyzed with software SPSS version 17.0. Chi-square test and the multi-factor logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the related factors in hospital workplace violence.Results:1.Around 63.5% of the participants were exposed to wokplace violence in the past year in changsha grade A hospitals. The incidence of psychological violence, physical violence, and sexual harassment was 61.40%,11.6%,5.7%.The violent incident reporting rate is only 22.9%.2.The characteristics of wokplace violence suffered by nurse were 51.2% of the incidents took place in the day shift,46.6% in the treatment room.The main characters of the perpetrators were the relatives of patients (63.2%), male(75.3%), and middle-aged (52.0%). The emergency department has highest incidence in all the work sectors.Nurses’responses to workplace violence were "patient explanation" (74.1%).The main influences on the nurses were "feeling anxiety wronged and angry" (68.0%).Nurses who had not reported the incidents accounted for 77.1%.3.Logistic regression indicated that "working department", "working experience", "the attitude of employer towards workplace violence", were influential factors and contributed to workplace Violence.Conclusion:1.Workplace violence against nurses was a significant problem in changsha, workplace violence types are mainly psychological violence; Violence reported rate is low.2.The workplace violence mainly occurs in the day shift and ward;Perpetrators are mainly middle-aged,male,relativese;The way nurses took when they meet workplace violence is self-surrender avoidance,The violence experience will bring many negative effects to the nurse.
