Objective: In this study,we explored the current status of workplace violence against head nurses, the impacts of general situation, work ability, coping styles, nurse's perception of workplace violence and hospital workplace violence on it and evaluate the significance of the factors we studied. This study aims to further reduce the incidence of head nurse experiencing workplace violence, strengthen the medical care team, and meet the growing health needs of people.Materials and Methods: A cluster sampling method was used to investigate all head nurses who were the authors of Chinese Journal of Modern Nursing in 2016.A total of297 people surveyed, and 256 questionnaires were recovered,of which 242 were valid questionnaires,of which effective response rate was 81.5%.Scales we measured include four parts: general situation scale,Hospital Workplace Violence Scale,Trait Coping Style Questionnaire,Work Ability Index.SPSS20.0 software were applied for statistical analysis of the data with univariate analysis using t-test and chi-square analysis and multivariate analysis using binary logistics regression. Results: In the past year,46.7 % of the head nurses were attacked by language,12 %by body,4.5 % by sexual harassment and 47.5 % by total violence.58.7 % of the violence occurred in the day shift,49.6 % in the ward and 22.6 per cent in the nurse's office. The status of the leading personnel who used the violence in the hospital workplace was mainly the family members of the patients, accounting for 52.6 %;male accounted for 70.4 %;Middle age accounted for 49.6 %,youth accounted for40 %,young and old age is less. The results of univariate analysis showed that the incidence of workplace violence of head nurses was significantly affected by 10 factors, including education level, only one child, department, training, hospital's ability to deal with past violence, attitude to employees after violence, attention to doctors and nurses, positive coping, negative coping and work ability(P<0.05).In multivariate analysis, the department is the most critical factor(OR=8.929,P=0.014)affecting the head nurse experiencing workplace violence. In addition, negative coping(OR=2.120,P=0.001)was risk factor,training(OR=0.295,P=0.002),education(OR=0.338,P=0.013),positive coping(OR=0.356,P<0.001),working ability(OR= 0.388,P<0.001)were protective factors. Conclusion: Nearly half of the head nurses who were the authors of Chinese journal of modern nursing in 2016 had been exposed to workplace violence,of which verbal aggression was the most common.Education level, whether only child, department, whether to carry out the relevant training, where the hospital to deal with previous violence is effective, the 10 variables including attitude of employees after violence, the degree of attention to doctors and nurses suffered violence, positive coping, negative coping, work ability have an impact on whether workplace violence occurred. In the multi-factor analysis, department, negative coping are risk factors, training, education level, positive coping, working ability are protective factors. The department is the most critical factor affecting the head nurse workplace violence.
