With the rapid development of the civil aviation career in China, the need for civil aviation pilots cannot be satisfied. Civil Aviation Flight University of China, which is regarded as the main force in Chinese civil aviation pilots training, is escalating its training scale while the flight procedure designing and presenting for the flight training is still in the two dimensional structure phase, with the defects of information fuzziness and presenting not intuitive and this causes the inconvenience for the students and outsiders in understanding the flight procedure in the student pilot training and outside communication. And presumably, CAFIC is in great need for a three dimensional presenting of the flight procedure.Based on the aeronautical chart of the Guanghan airport of CAFUC and the actual flight training, through the need analysis of the system, this paper specifies the functions that are required by the 3D simulation system of the flight procedure of the Guanghan airport and proposes a new solution. The DEM data based on the chart, with the 3D terrain rendering tool of OpenGL, the Access database as the data-managing tool, this paper makes the 3D terrain modeling and the 3D simulation of the flight procedure in realization. The main achievements are as follows:1.Introduce the pertinent knowledge and technology that is required by the 3D simulation of the flight procedure.2.Make a need analysis from a 3D terrain rendering the airport and 3D simulation of the flight procedure, and describe a general designing for the system and put forward a design flow and functional structure chart.3.According to the system requirement, through the 3D terrain modeling, terrain simplification and graphic plotting, a 3D terrain presenting of Guanghan airport is accomplished; based on the chart elements as the sub-function unit, a data base design and a design flow for the realization of its function are accomplished; a 3D presenting modeling and method for the chart elements in the flight procedure and an air route automatic generation and the flight simulation function are researched; a 3D presenting for the chart elements and a simulation for the flight procedure in Guanghan airport is achieved.4.All function tests for the system are finished and results are achieved by entering the chart data of the Guanghan airport, and an analysis of the test result is made.A 3D simulation for the flight procedure in Guanghan airport is accomplished in this system, and the chart elements such as airport, runway, locating point, obstacles, air route, airspace and holding procedure which were presented in 2D way are now presented in a 3Dway. By the 3D simulation for the design result of the flight procedure, the flight process of the aircraft is presented to the customer in an intuistic way, this system provides a new way for the flight training in CAFUC.
