A Study On The Columns Of "Foreign Journal Translation" In Qing Dynasty

Liang Qichao was exiled to Japan after the failing of the Reform Movement of 1898 and then established CHINA DISSCUSSION in Yokohama. As the first overseas Party paper of the reformers, CHINA DISSCUSSION focused on discussing the state affairs and developing the nationals’ talents. For the sake of helping people to realize China’s national crisis, CHINA DISSCUSSION launched a column of translating and publishing comments concerning China issues from foreign papers.Selecting this column as the research object, this paper aims to understand the reformers’ explorations for the modernization of China in late Qing dynasty by analyzing the content of text. Meanwhile this paper goes deeply into these comments to discuss how reformers spread ideas by publishing this column.
