The Eastern Miscellany, the longest published comprehensive journal during the Republican period, almost never.stopped translating and introducing the European and American literature from its initiation till the final issue. This thesis goes through all the issues of The Eastern Miscellany from1920to1932and other relevant historical materials, attempt to explore the dissemination and acceptation of European and American literature in this period of China, from the perspective of comprehensive journal. First, this thesis investigates the reason of appearance change of The Eastern Miscellanys translating European and American literature in1920, by combing the background of times, the business and development of Commercial Press, and the original conceptions and the new translation conceptions of The Eastern Miscellany, then gives a preliminary summary of the general translation methods. Second, through analyses the translation of European and American Literature and relevant articles of The Eastern Miscellany in this period, this thesis discusses the tendency and acceptance characteristics of this journal in translation, from the perspective of country and school respectively. Finally, on the basis of analyses above, this thesis expounds pursuit of developing national literature and integrating into the world literature in the vision of world literature, which was presented through The Eastern Miscellany’s translating European and American Literature in this period.
