Straight side double crank power presses are a kind of large crank press. The automotive industry developed prosperity, as well as upgrading obsolete domestic press equipment. The market of large crank press is in great demand. The competition is more and more seriously between internal and abroad crank press industry. So the straight side double crank power press CAD system is rewarding to advance the design level and shorten the product design cycle.The research on CAD system of straight side double crank power press is based on CBR. We first introduce the basis knowledge of crank press and the develop trend in the future, and analysis the main problem exist in the crank press design, about the long period of design, raw materials costing, low degree of standardization, and so all. The basic concepts, working principle and key technologies of CBR are explained in the paper. We also summarized the application of CBR in the field of machinery industry.The overall structure of developed CAD system was established. We introduce the key technology which can use in the development of cress press CAD system. Such as modular product design, parametric design, variant design, the second development of SolidWorks. The method on the variant design of crank press based on parametric techniques was researched. The general process about the module division of crank press was given in this paper, and a general process of parametric design.We also reached how to apply the key technologies of CBR in the CAD system. Include case representation, case retrieval and case adaption. Finally a method about parameterized variant design system based on Visual C++ and Excel was given. The method and system are successfully used in the parameterized variant design of body design module.
