A Study On The Achievements Of Yao Mingda 's Classical Catalog

Mingda Yao is a well-known bibliographer, historian, philologist of modern times in China. During his 38 years life he left the world some influential works, like bibliography, China bibliography history, and chronological table of China bibliography, also chronicle from several historians of Zhedong School, especially his bibliography is a milestone of bibliography history. Studies on Mingda Yao’s academic achievement mainly started from 1980s, and content mainly focused on contribution of historiography and modern bibliography, while the studies on his achievement of classical bibliography is comparatively rare and not systematic. The thesis here is try best to collect researching material nowadays, make systematic clearing, comparison, analysis and summarization, from angle of China bibliography history, through discussion on Yao’s bibliography ideology and method, summarization of bibliography achievement, reveal the important concept that Mingda Yao combined Chinese and western bibliography to build bibliography theory system when he was researching classical bibliography, reveal that he focused on historical material collection and evaluation and traced the source of bibliography, also the new achievement and new conclusion of individual case research by bibliographer.
