In China, there are seven history books written in biographical style which haveaccounts of the classics collected or written in one particular dynasty. These sevenhistory books are Han Shu Yi Wen Zhi, Sui Shu Jing Ji Zhi, Jiu Tang Shu Jing Ji Zhi, XinTang Shu Yi Wen Zhi, Song Shi Yi Wen Zhi, Ming Shi Yi Wen Zhi and Qing Shi Gao YiWen Zhi. Five of them established the part of bibliography to collect bibliography books. In addition, Each of them has a general preface, recording documents from eachcorresponding dynasty, and one important part of the preface is the introduction to thebibliography.Through the specific analysis to the bibliography books in the Yi Wen or Jing Ji Zhiof history books written in biographical style, lots of characteristics have been found asfollows: there are various kinds of books collected in the part of bibliography; thebibliography follows certain sequences; the booklist in the part of bibliography iscoherent and systematic whether certain books still exist or not; the booklist in thepreface, introducing the process of compiling and containing illustration to the originalversion of each classic, is compiled according to the books collected by local authoritiesand is a contrast to the bibliography in the part of bibliography. The abovecharacteristics endow philological and bibliographical significance to the bibliographyin Yi Wen or Jing Ji Zhi of history books written in biographical style, but there are stillsome shortcomings with it.
