In recent years, with the rapid development of science and technology, social networks has been the popularity both inside and outside our country. In the context of web media, television viewing habits have also faced a huge change. People tend to watch TV with "the first screen" while communicate with the others using a " second screen". Social TV arises under such requirements.To explain such a new communication concept like social TV, the article first to define the concepts, then introduce existing social TV platforms with different types; after that, this paper respectively interpret social TV with a perspective of communication studies from the change of audience viewing habits and communication characteristics; finally, the article talks about the dilemma and possibility for the development of social TV, and make a positive outlook for its future development prospect.
