Electric power steering system is a new automotive power steering system which directly depends on motors to provide auxiliary steering system. Although the Mechanical power steering system and the Hydraulic power steering system has developed for a long time and possessed mature technology, it can’t meet the needs for the development of microelectronics, automotive energy efficiency and environmental protection. Electric power steering system can significantly improve the comfort of driver operating system wheel and the safety of car driving, and reduce environmental pollution, etc, which accords with the demands for modern vehicle development, and gradually become the mainstream of the steering system. Electric power steering controllers play an important role in electric power steering system, which determines the handling, stability and security of the vehicle. Therefore, with the development of electric steering system, the quality of the electric steering controllers have increasingly attracted people’s attention.To detect the quality of electric power steering controller, electric power performance test platform need to be used because traditional platform has a big test workload, consumable elapsed time and high cost. The test platform, based on the basic performance test bench of the electric power steering controller, with the properties of simple structure, low cost, easy testing and modifying reduce the test security risks and provide basis for testing, researching and development for electric power steering controllers, combines with virtual testing technology, and use Labview virtual software development platform to build a set of electric power steering performance test platform.The test platform composition and bench designing are confirmed according to the basic performance and tested parameters of the steering shaft power controller, combining actual laboratory and production applications, discuss the analysis principle and design requirements of the test platform, and determine the composition of test bench and platform design.The rotation of servo motor is controlled through the output of the PLC to analog the driver’s steering wheel system; The magnetic powder brake system is controlled through magnetic powder brake controller to simulate the road resistance; The data is collected and processed through the use of acquisition card to complete the data acquisition system and other equipment selection and configuration.The detection system’s front panel and rear panel are planned overall by using Labview virtual software development and new module programming technology. To design the function of each module, considering the interferon in data collection environment, overall planning the front panel and back panel of the detection system, and a kind of friendly man- machine interface is designed according to the function of each module and requirements.The test process of electric power steering performance test platform is determined through analyzes and its controller is tested soon afterwards. By comparing the test results with the standard test bench results, the eligibility of test bench and product and the feasibility of test bench are both verified.
