The Development And Research Of EPS Test Bench Based On Driver-in-the-loop

Electric power steering system (EPS) is a steering servo mechanism, whichregulates the output torque of the motor by electronic control devices based on thesignal of speed and steering wheel torque. EPS system has many advantages,including simple structure, easy to control, improving the vehicles’ handling stabilityand protecting environment.We must have a lot of real vehicle tests to perfect EPS controller, and then it willwaste a lot of time and resources and have a certain degree of danger. Therefore, thepaper developed an economic and practical EPS test bench, which can effectivelyreduce development time and cost. At the same time, some EPS parts can accomplishfunctional tests. The EPS test bench accomplishes the simulation of vehicle, road andtraffic environment, by building high-performance real-time dynamic closed-loop testenvironment, combined with the driver’s handling feelings.Firstly, the paper builds the car model based on DYNAware software. Secondly, wecomplete the hardware design of the test bench, including the manufacture of theframe, selection of important parts, program of control system and writing softwareand so on. Finally, the paper has some hardware-in-the-loop tests on the test bench,and the test bench has achieved the desired design goal. Then some common EPSfaults are simulated on the test bench, to verify EPS fault protection mechanismwhether is valid.The innovation of this paper is to use a servo motor as steering resistancesimulation device, easy to realize the real-time changes of steering resistance torqueand steering aligning automatically. In addition to this, the driver will be added to partof the test bench to simulate real driving environment, and real-time animation showsthe movement of the car. Therefore, the EPS test bench is contributed to thedevelopment and improvement of electric power steering system.
