According to the objective of 13th Five Year Plan for nuclear power set by State Council, by 2020, national operating nuclear power capacity should reach 58,000 MW and about 30,000 MW under construction. In 2015,8 units were approved to start construction, including Fangchenggang 3 and 4, Tianwan 5 and 6, Hongyanhe 5 and 6, Fuqing 5 and 6. As the 13th Five Year Plan draft indicates, from the first year of 2016, China will construct 6 new units each year during the Five Year Plan, and invest 500 billion RMB (about 76 billion$) in the adoption of independently developed new NPPs.. Moreover, it is understood that AP1000, as the Generation Ⅲ nuclear power technology, will be adopted domestically in a wide scale during this period.A nuclear power project is a construction project with high-level technology input, complicated interfaces, long construction period and large investment. As one of the information carriers, document is involved in all works and activities during the construction phase. Large amount of various documents will be generated from feasibility study to as built acceptance. Therefore, a rigorous, scientific and effective document management system can not only guarantee effective information communication during project construction management, but also is vital to the safety operation and maintenance after operation. "Everything should be procedure based, have designated responsible and inspection personnel, and be documented for further checking" is emphasized in nuclear power companies. While each department is required to focus on physical construction of the NPP, document and archive management is of same importance. All construction works and activities should be based on relevant construction documents; complete documents should be developed and followed for works in every stage like engineering, manufacturing, construction, installation, construction supervision and commissioning. As a basis for the safety operation of a NPP, while qualified physical construction work should be maintained, its construction documents and archives should also be properly kept to provide traceable original records for technical improvement. As Generation III nuclear power project is on the way to rapid expansion, Haiyang nuclear power project, as one of the national Generation III self-reliance program supporting projects, adopts AP1000 technology which has no as built NPPs available now globally. Therefore, the study on its document management practice is of great significance and provides reference to following AP1000 nuclear power projects to be constructed. By adopting the method of combining theoretical analysis with empirical analysis, this paper discusses the theory of project document management, analyzes the document management practice of Haiyang nuclear power project, and provides a basis as how to manage documents in NPPs. This paper can be divided into 5 chapters. Chapter Ⅰ introduces the background, significance and contents of the study; Chapter Ⅱ describes A survey of AP1000 NPP and theory basis, and also describes archives laws and regulations of document management in NPPs; Chapter Ⅲ discusses the contents of document management system construction in nuclear power plants; Chapter Ⅳ explains document management controlled measures, and introduces the document management system practice of Shandong Nuclear Power Company, and also focus on how to prepare for acceptance of project documents; The last Chapter is about the conclusion and vision of this paper.Document management work plays a more important role in nuclear power companies than that in other industries. Therefore, document management work, whether good or bad, will directly affect the quality of nuclear power construction and operation period.
