In recent years, with the built of speed of large complex project increasingly developing, and because of the timeliness of the project, the optimization and control of the project progress has become increasingly important. However, due to the neglect of the resource constrained problems the traditional progress control method have brought about resource conflicts between different tasks in the implementation of engineering construction process, which wastes a lot of resources. In addition, the existence of unpredictable factors have caused adverse effects on the project duration, and even caused the schedule delay. Owing to the intrinsic defect, the traditional progress control method cannot meet the demand of current new construction technology and the social environment, therefore, we need another a relatively better engineering project management method, namely, a project schedule management method based on critical chain technology.In this thesis, the author analyzed the characteristics of Xuchang popular science base project and put forward the main influencing factors of project duration, and the influencing factors are analyzed in brief; then the principle and development of the traditional project schedule management method are introduced briefly, besides, combing with the new environment of modern large and complex engineering project, the author pointed out the deficiency of traditional project schedule management under the new circumstance. Subsequently, the author elaborated systematically theoretical basis and application method of project management based on critical chain technology, summarized estimation method of work duration and setting method of buffer size technology, then pointed out the advantages and disadvantages of each method and application procedures and illustrated the theory and procedures of improvement of the buffer setting based on the root variance method in detail. Finally the author built the project schedule management model using the project schedule management software, The critical chain technology was applied to the project schedule management model, which provided a practical application example for the management of other large-scale complex projects.The results of analysis of this engineering example have indicated that the project management model using the method of critical chain project technology will not only effectively optimize the duration of the project, but also will solve the resource conflicts between projects, which can ensure project time limit and save the resources at the same time. It will provide a reference for this technology in the application in the modern large-scale project construction schedule management to some extent.
