Along with the implementation of "going global" strategy, Chinese construction enterprises go abroad one after another and get involved in competition in international construction market. However, they still face many challenges in overseas engineering projects, such as site management. Construction site management in overseas projects refers to a process in which Chinese construction enterprises or project departments manage the contents within construction site in overseas projects and outside engineering noumenon, including plan, materials and equipment, environment, safety and personnel, in accordance with the regulations of urban management issued by local government in the country where the projects are located as well as the internal regulations of construction site management across the enterprises. Favorable construction site management can help achieve the project objective. The level of site management is closely related to duration, quality and profit of a project that influence the economic benefit of an enterprise. This thesis studies the construction site management of Chinese construction enterprises in overseas projects, summarizes the problems in management, learns from advanced experience abroad, and proposes to improve the level of construction site management of Chinese construction enterprises in overseas projects by enhancing management consciousness, perfecting management system and improving management method.First, the status quo of construction site management of Chinese construction enterprises in overseas projects is analyzed comprehensively by means of literature analysis and expert interviews. The content, characteristics and process of construction site management in overseas projects are elaborated. Problems of construction site management in overseas projects are summarized. The reasons for these problems are then analyzed in terms of management consciousness, management system and management method. Second, by literature analysis and integration, the Meizhou Wan Power Plant Project of Bechtel Corporation (USA) and the Zhanghe Wan Hydropower Station Project of Taisei Corporation (Japan) are investigated. The experience of international leading contractors in construction site management is summarized and analyzed. The inspiration from their experience provides a reference for construction site management of Chinese contractors overseas. At last, suggestions are provided to improve the level of construction site management of Chinese construction enterprises in overseas projects from three perspectives based on the status quo of construction site management of Chinese construction enterprises in overseas projects and the experience from leading contractors:1) enhance management consciousness by strengthening training and publicity; 2) improve management system of construction site according to 6S management. All systems after improvement are explained in details; 3) apply Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Video monitoring technology to conduct visual management of construction site in overseas projects. New methods and ideas are provided to create a safe, efficient and orderly construction site in overseas projects. Finally, efficient management of construction site in overseas projects is realized.
