With the rapid development of economy, the urbanizing is quickly and steadily in China. It will be an inevitable trend that people toward gather in cities. Especially in megacities and megalopolis, the rapid growth of population brings great pressure. So it is an important subject to research how to ease the city pressure and create a livable environment in the rapid urbanization.Developing the large residential district by mixed-use theory is a general solution of population increasing in cities. There are much more public space in this kind of district, and the functional localization, space allocation and placement scheme are more complex. It will provide experience and suggestion to new designs by researching the typical form of the public space of large residential district by mixed-use theory. So, it has an important practical significance for the aim to build the livable city. There are four procedures in the thesis to research the subject step by step: First, collating all kinds of theories of mixed-use and theories about large residential districts in China, to set up the theory supports for analyzing and research. Then, create a purposeful and operability analytical method aim at the characteristics of the objects by referring the existing analyzing model and on the basis of objective circumstances of China. After that, choosing three typical cases of large residential districts as the objects of study, analyzing the merits of that three to discuss the strategy of public space design, and the situation of application of mixed-use theory. At last, compares that three cases term by term, summing up a reasonable design method by each merits of three, and cognizing the variety of public space design, to provide some optimizing strategy to the relevant projects.
