In the twenty-first century is the era of population aging now.Many developedcountries having entered the aging society,china also is under the background of agingpopulation,and the aging of the population situation is not optimistic in our country. China’selderly population continues to increase, when the aging problem gradually increasing isaccompanied by a gradual increase of China’s economy, city and industrial deepening, theelderly people in meeting the basic material conditions for good residential exterior publicspace environment, space and the increasing demand of. The present situation of residentialpublic space can not keep up with the needs of the elderly, showing a public spaceenvironment of residential district suitable aging shortage, to the old man’s use of insufficientattention, can not meet the old people constantly changing and increasing demand, there aremany is not suitable for the elderly activity factor.This paper based on the research summarizes the changes and behavioral characteristicsof the elderly physiological,psychological and research in the need for a public spaceenvironment of residential area, and select Urumqi city residential area of investigation andinterview, the status of the residential area in the analysis, and pointed out the problems,explore solutions of residential area planning and design in Urumqi, suitable for the design ofthe public space of residential district environment of the elderly, puts forward somecountermeasures, hope to provide some help for future design and construction of residentialareas.
