College physical education buildings are widely used. With implementation of policies like ―national fitness‖ and maturing and improving of college physical education, college sports tends to diversity and sports area per capital for teachers and students increases. However, college campus’ constructions are always limited by land use and funds. How to alleviate the contradiction between these two sides? And how to explore college physical education building mode that improve s sports area per capital and balance it with land use and construction funds? This is a new beginning for college physical education buildings’ development.The multilevel college physical education buildings build on the foundation of the above-mentioned contradiction. In a limited site coverage, multilevel sports fields are constructed vertically, promoting modern physical education buildings converting from single-level form to double-level or even multilevel form. This creates more sports area and types, and adapts to gradually expanding physical education background. Hence one can see that it is very necessary to develop multilevel college physical education buildings for the sake of college physical education constructions and China’s physical education growth. The design principle of this essay is to establish multilevel physical education buildings that meet the demands of college sports. The author attempts to construct design approaches corresponding to space characteristics of multilevel physical education buildings, and solve technical and other difficulties met in design of these buildings. In this text, systematic analyses and researches of this kind of buildings are also carried out.This article first examines problems and contradictions of college physical education buildings brought by China’s physical education policies and present situation of college physical education. It explores the development foundations and prospects of multilevel physical education buildings in colleges, and defines the research scope, purpose and background. It also makes an introduction in a certain depth and breadth. On this basis, starting by studying the development motivation of multilevel college physical education buildings, the article explores positive significance and character analysis of building multilevel sports fields, establishes design policies of multilevel college physical education buildings, that is the policy of multiple combination of sports fields, the policy of smooth layered college circulation, and the policy of economic rationality in m ultilevel technology. Furthermore, the article discusses space design methods. Three combination models of fundamental areas and subsidiary areas are developed by studying in macroscopic view the overall layout and a large number of living examples, and in medium view the function composing including dimension design of multilevel areas and multiple conversions of multilevel subsidiary areas. Under the influences of special height, structural span and functional attributes, the author obtains a logic of multilevel space organization and a method of circulation organization. In the end, at a technical level, a method is proposed for achieving multilevel physical education buildings. The method is based on structural style, material selection, and conversion of spans in different levels. From the standpoint of comfortable circulation, the author puts forward the idea of improving sports environments of light, heat and sound under the influence of multilevel areas. From the angle of application and adaptation, the author demonstrates the necessity of movable bleachers, partitions and fields in design of multilevel physical education buildings.Beginning by exploring solutions to the contradictory problems in development of college physical education buildings, the article brings forward the development significance of multilevel physical education buildings in colleges. From the aspects of space and technology, the author analyzes the design approaches, and gradually optimizes innovative design in depth, hoping to make some contributions to the construction of college physical education buildings.
