With China’s improvement of social economy and traffic environment, industry demanding for special purpose vehicle especially heavy special vehicle is more and more big. At present, in the developed countries, car ownership has accounted for truck more than 80%, while our country is still at 25% level. A special purpose vehicle’s performance and research costs depend largely on the design of the chassis system standard.According to the need of special truck trend, beside the requirements of transport chassis, we should also meet the requirements of better performance, more widely applicable and lower development costs. In order to meet this requirement, we propose a modular vehicle chassis design concept. The key concepts of "modular" are: standardized interfaces, as well as the detailed definition of function module. The goal of modular truck chassis design concept is to combine as many multi-function type and size of chassis as possible with as less standard module as possible. A modular system includes greater variability, fewer components, and to form as much part as possible. Since chassis structure on each packet assembly has obvious function of independence, is a product with modularization properties. The practical significance of the modularization is to save cost. Through the base module and other modules, we can realize different function assembly, thus forming different models of truck chassis series.Classifying special truck chassis at home and abroad respectively, this paper introduces the structure characteristics and research status of domestic and foreign truck chassis; introduces key concepts associated with special truck chassis design, such as modules, modular, standardization, parameterized and their relationship; the design process and principle, as well as the advantages of special truck modular is described in detail. From the point of view of an overall, this paper dedicated the principle of truck chassis modular design.; analyzed the types of modular design; for the first time put forward the evaluation method of special truck chassis modular design. Through the establishment of customer demand hierarchy model, this paper constructed a special product family structure model of truck chassis, providing a theoretical basis for later mass customization of modular products. At the same time, this paper expounds the special truck chassis module library standard of related concept, classification, and further study on the chassis module library construction scheme and development train of thought. This paper introduced the overall structure and parameters when modular designing on the general car chassis. In addition, through learning foreign mature modular chassis design, modular structure of the cab and chassis design method is proposed. At the same time, the paper expounds the modular structure design thought on chassis accessories such as fuel tank, air tank, storage battery and urea tank. Finally, the paper selected single motor vehicle chassis transfer case, the core of as the research object, studies the transfer case of modular structure design thought, including the standardization of the interface, and mechanical clutch module static hydraulic module design of transfer case.
