The Application Of Water In The External Environment Design Of Memorial Architecture

Memorial building is the product of human spiritual needs. Early humans worship of nature, fear of the unknown, miss of lost loved ones all contribute to the birth of memorial building. Inside and outside environment of memorial building can combine to build an environment with commemorative atmosphere, and effectively convey memorial emotion to people, as well as realize the essence of the memorial building.Water, as one of design elements widely used in all ages, plays an incomparable role that no other design elements can match in shaping environment atmosphere and adjusting micro climate. It is because of the multiple function of water in the environment, using water element in outside environment of memorial building is an important means in building memorial environment and foil commemorative atmosphere.Starting from the characteristics of the water, this paper researches the application of perceptual characteristics, shape characteristics and cultural characteristics of water in outside environment design of memorial building, and analyzes the spatial relationship between water and both memorial buildings and outside environment. Through analysis and induction of the memorial building cases, this paper puts forward three principles in using water which should be followed in outside environment design of memorial building, as the principle of unity according to the relationship between water and external environment of memorial building, the principle of culture in cultural inheritance, and the principle of ecology in water and ecological environment protection. Finally, this paper studies and discusses the application approach of water in the external environment design of memorial building, on the basis of memorial building cases analysis and summary.This paper hopes to provide certain reference in the design of memorial buildings and its outer environment for the future by summarizing the methods and principles of using water in external environment design of memorial buildings.
