| Memorial Architecture is one of the ancient types in Architecture. In long yearsof development, it had just seen the biggest change of its form, function and emotion.As the integral part of Memorial Architecture, its external space has also changed a lot.Based on the study of the external space design, this article aims to investigate andsummarize the development, design methods and spiritual connotations of it. It willset a stage for the theoretical research and design practice of the related topics in thefuture.The author started with the basic concepts and theories about the memorialarchitecture and the elements of its external space. Then it discussed the constructionsystem, Genius Loci, regional feelings of the external space. It’s a rise from designmethods to the memorial emotion and mentality and also a shift of perspective fromdesigner to the user and appreciator. The article combined with the analysis of casesof different architects in different times, making it more visible and exact andenhancing its applicability in design practice. |
