The relationship between buildings and the external environment is the key task of architects. The external environment provides necessary places for people’s living and marks people’s passing. It witnesses the development of a country. At the same time, it is also the precondition for a nation’s rapid development. In the era of cities accelerate quickly, external environment is left behind and buildings is becoming a stage for architects and novel is becoming the goal of design. So the external environment has become a "patching" stage background. In view of this phenomenon, contemporary architects are necessary to think and posit the importance of external environment, and it is necessary to explore the methods of dealing with the relationship between architecture and environment. When a building is in the given environment, it always brings good or bad influence to the environment, and the effect depends on the relationship between the building and the given environment. From this point of view, it can be thought that the architectural design is also city design. Architectural design and city design are not separate categories, and there is certain intersection between them. Under the background of the demanding for the relationship between architecture and environment is becoming more and more high, which has become increasingly inseparable. Therefore, in the discussion, the city design theory is used as theoretical support and an essential part of the architectural design’s analysis process. How to design buildings in line with the modern functional and aesthetic needs, and melting in the environment around buildings in the external environment is the main topic of this paper. Under the constraints of the external environment has both characteristics and restrictive conditions, the architectural design will be the thinking process of "from the outside to the inside" and from rational to emotional. Only with the guidance of the thinking, buildings meeting the requirements of construction will be designed, and rooted in the external environment. This paper discusses the relationship between architecture and environment based on the city design theory, by the way of diagramming domestic and foreign classic cases, and supplemented by drawings. Finally, the conclusion of analysis is demonstrated by design practice.
