| Memorial architecture of figure(MAF for following), as being one type of memorial architecture, has its own characteristic design theme and representation means. In terms of the design issue on its spatial quality, it calls for certain coherency with the figure and consideration on audiences’ emotional experience. As China is moving fast on civil construction including memorial architecture of figure, the process towards higher standard of spiritual and cultural life is outputting new requirements on this design issue. At the front door of the discipline of MAF here comes the challenges such as hybridity and complexity on program, variation on form, impact from new exhibition technology, and public’s increasing expectation on architectural experience.This essay focuses its scope on MAF, and begins the research with investigation on projects and references collection. Its ambition departs from the emerging feature and existing problems, towards an explicit analyses between its differences with other types of museum architecture, and finally suggesting a new design strategy on contemporary MAF.The essay is constructed as three chapters:Part 1( Raise the Issue) as introduction on its background, ambition and significance. It will also include the research situation within China and abroad. It will articulate the spectrum and content, suggest the potential research approach, and help to clarify the structure of this essay.Part 2(Analyzing the Issue) as the Chapter 2, it will start with overview on the issue, make clear definition on the notion of MAF, including its function, feature and categories. This part will also exam the comparison between MAF and general museum architecture with attempting to reveal the key factors and problems of contemporary MAF.Part 3(Solution of the Issue) including Chapter 3, 4, 5, 6 and the conclusion, this part will house the main research body on projects analyzing in terms of their strategies on positions, programs, circulations and external environments. The conclusion of this research on the design strategy will finally result in the suggestion on future direction of memorial architecture of figure. |
