So the research to the sidewalk landscape is very necessary, it hasfar-reaching significance in shaping a good image of the city and creating comfortable andsafe walking environment. In this paper, scientific study methods are used, such as literature research, investigation, generalization etc. including the relevant study of design, investigation analyses topedestrians’ behavioral psychology when they are in sidewalk landscape space and analysesof landscape elements etc, it explores sidewalk landscape design approaches with universalapplicability. This paper, firstly, studies basis theories of city sidewalk landscape, defines the conceptof city sidewalk and sidewalk landscape, defines the scope of study; analyzes the functionsand types of sidewalk, components of sidewalk landscape, and influencing factors oflandscape design. On this basis city sidewalk landscape design can be in full swing.Secondly, studies the relevant theories of environmental behavior psychology, aesthetics, landscape ecology and city planning etc, as theoretical evidences for the design methods.Through behavior and psychological investigations to the pedestrians who are in sidewalklandscape space, analyzes deeply pedestrians’ various behaviors and needs in theenvironment, and impacts of landscape elements in the space on pedestrians. Then putforward sidewalk landscape design features which meet pedestrians behavior psychology. Finally, explores the specific design methods focusing from overall and partial planning.
