The Research On The Humanized Renovation Of Chinese Street Sidewalk Space

Street is the important part of city public space. Citizens walk and attend activities on the street, and street shows the spirit of city. An orderly street depends upon good street space, which provide place for public life. While, the sidewalk space is the main street space for street public life. And it's the most representative part, in the whole street space, showing street life and standing for spiritual outlook of a city.However, along with vehicle coming and growing in large number, the street space design and build to cater for vehicle's width, for vehicle traffic, ignoring the human's walking request. So walking space become to the adjunct of street traffic space and even against humanized design. In China, cities are designed to "large block, wide road" and closed community around, which reduces the comfort and enjoyment from street sidewalk space. Furthermore, urban construction problems make street space dehumanizing and losing regional features, destroying old building and building new one, face-looking building. So all streets are the same exterior. Citizens lose sense of belonging and city feature damages.The more and more problems are coming out, and people become to think about the street sidewalk space should be paid more attention. Following the West's advantage experience, we have less researching about our specific city problem and people's request. Humanized design generally has no pertinency. Especially, in China, there are large amount of dehumanizing streets. The humanized transformation is exigency for street sidewalk space, depending on existing circumstances, not rebuilding for new streets.This paper research analyses human's request in street sidewalk space and summarize the sidewalk space feature of humanized streets, this research can be evaluation standard for humanized street sidewalk space. It also can be used for reference of sidewalk space transformation. Have assessed and analyzed for Chinese whole street and some typically streets, and concluded the point problems for Chinese street sidewalk space in humanized part. Aim at typical problems of Chinese street sidewalk space, in the dehumanizing status, it depends on pedestrian's walking request, take effective measures on humanized renovation of Chinese street sidewalk space.
