A Study On Landscaping Arts Of Zhejiang Traditional Doors

Door is one of the important components in architecture and landscape design. Its shapecharacteristics and decorative arts not only condensing exquisite skills and the great wisdom of theancients but also are the carrier of Chinese traditional culture. Meanwhile they are the valuable culturalheritage. As the beginning of space sequence, doors not merely has a practical function of passage andprotection, but also have a positive effect for the organization of entrance space. Zhejiang traditionaldoors have many types and a large quantity, in addition the unique topography and water environmentcreate Zhejiang doors had local characteristics and rich cultural connotations.However, because of the rapid development of economy and the speeding up of urbanization,traditional buildings suffered severe damage. Also people in some areas have a week awareness toprotect the traditional architecture, so traditional doors are confronted with serious challenges, and thelocal characteristics are slowly disappearing. A system study on landscaping art theories of Zhejiangdoors is not only advantageous to the heritage protection and the regional features inheritance ofZhejiang traditional doors, but also of vital importance for contemporary landscape architectures toderive from ancient experience and preserve and promote traditional architecture landscape.Based on the analysis and sum-up of references and field research, this dissertation makes a systemstudy on landscape art, decorative arts, cultural connotation and inheritance and development ofZhejiang traditional residential doors, ancestral hall doors, temple doors, village doors and town gates.The significance of the dissertation lies in the following three aspects:1.Sum up the characteristics of the different types traditional doors in Zhejiang. Based on thedifferent spatial level, the doors are classified to be two types, one is the building group doors,includingresidential doors, ancestral hall doors and temple doors; the other is settlement doors, including villagedoors and town gates. And then analyze the landscape art of these two types to summarize thecharacteristics and decorative arts features of different doors.2.In the form of combining the references and living examples, this dissertation analyze thecultural connotations carried by the Zhejiang traditional doors. on the one hand, analyze the order ofdoors from shape, scale and decoration; One the other hand, analyze the Feng Shui of doors fromlocation, orientation and custom; finally, analyze the education function of doors from decorativethemes.3.Combined with field research, this dissertation analyze the protection and inheritance currentsituation of the Zhejiang traditional doors. According to protection problems of Zhejiang traditionaldoors, this dissertation put forward some corresponding strategies; And combined the practices ofZhejiang excellent examples with practices which I participated in, this dissertation analyze anddiscussing the traditional doors in the application of modern garden.
