Temple gardens are gardens that integrate temple architecture,religious landscapes,artificial landscaping,and natural landscapes.They often contain rich historical,cultural,and artistic values.Since ancient times,the culture of Buddhism and Taoism has prospered in Zhejiang.It has the "thousands of mountains,thousands of waters and thousands of talents" and its beautiful landscapes and humanistic history.Under this background,Zhejiang temples and gardens have formed the regional characteristics of the integration of mountains and temples.Its garden construction concepts and artistic techniques are worthy to deep study.Based on the research methods of literature collation,field investigation,induction and summary,and based on the results of the predecessors’ census,this paper conducts selective research on the temples and gardens remaining in Zhejiang.The main results are as follows:(1)By consulting ancient and modern literature on Zhejiang temples and gardens,the peculiarities of temples and gardens and their religious philosophy are explored,and the origin,evolution and development of Zhejiang temples and gardens are sorted out.The temple gardens in Zhejiang took shape in the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties,and gradually developed during the Sui,Tang and Five Dynasties.The literary popularity reached its peak in the Song Dynasty and matured in the Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties.(2)According to the records of various local chronicles and religious records and field investigations,the current status of the remains of temples and gardens in Zhejiang was sorted out,and the artistic principles and regional characteristics of the temples and gardens in Zhejiang were summarized.Through a selective analysis of the value of Zhejiang temples and gardens and the richness of the restoration basis,Tiantai Guoqing Temple,Hangzhou Baopu Taoist Temple and Huanglong Cave were selected as excellent cases for in-depth research,while Hangzhou Lingyin Temple and Xinchang Great Buddha Temple were used as excellent cases Choose to repair the research object.(3)Conduct on-site investigations,photographs,surveying and mapping analysis on the three excellent cases selected,and through the discussion of the garden art principles such as location selection,spatial layout,stacking mountains and water,and artistic conception creation to visually present the outstanding remains of Zhejiang The gardening characteristics of temple gardens.In addition,the understanding and cognition of the historical evolution and historical evaluation of Lingyin Temple and Xinchang Great Buddha Temple are compiled through literature data,and then based on the investigation of the current status of Lingyin Temple and Great Buddha Temple,surveying and mapping,and the perception of the external gardening environment of the temple.Combining the appearance of historical gardens in the literature,the restoration design is proposed,and the landscape characteristics are discussed and analyzed.(4)Based on the experience of restoration design of selective cases and the research and analysis of excellent cases,combined with the field investigation and the analysis of the status quo of the remains,propose the protection and restoration design suggestions for the temple gardens in Zhejiang.
