A Study On Landscaping Arts Of Zhejiang Ancient Pagodas

Pagoda is an ancient and unique building type which sources form Buddhism.People built pagodasto enshrine Buddhism, pinning hopes on it and express feelings.Even they get up the pagoda to admirethe view and write some words to show their ambitions. The strong Wu Yue culture and uniquetopography and water environment create Zhejiang pagodas had local styles and rich culturalconnotations. Paogoda is an important form of traditional landscape architecture in Zhejiang,whichcombine landscape,plants,buildings and culture art to constitute an integral part of Zhejiang landscapepicture scroll and form an unique landscaping technique.Zhejiang pagodas not only bring a great deal ofinformation on the history and humanities, but also condensing exquisite skills and the great wisdom ofthe ancients.It is the valuable intangible cultural heritage and has a positive effect for the study ofzhejiang ancient architectural culture.In the process of urbanization and globalization, the protection and inheritance of traditionalgarden architectural art is facing a crisis.A system study on landscaping art theories of Zhejiang pagodasis of vital importance for contemporary landscape architectures to derive from ancient experience andpreserve and promote regional culture landscape.Based on the analysis and sum-up of references and field research, this dissertation makes a systemstudy on historical development, architectural form, landscape art, aesthetics and protection, inheritanceand development of Zhejiang pagodas.The significance of the dissertation lies in the following threeaspects:1.Sum up the distribution and characteristics of the ancient pagoda in zhejiang.By means ofcollecting ancient and modern literature, local chronicles and archaeological survey, this dissertationcardings the construction history of ancient pagodas in zhejiang province, analysis various periods ofpagodas combined with the actual cases.2. Sum up the Design-Build method and patterns of zhejiang pagodas. According to the Chinesepagodas sort which applied by Luo Zhewen and the architectures’ feature in Zhejiang province, thisdissertation analyze the existing pagodas from following perspectives: sort, design method and art,evenanalyze eight famous pagodas in Zhejiang like Lengfeng Pagoda, Liu He Pagoda and Zhanao Pagodaand so on. 3. This dissertation present some advises and strategies about how to protect pagodas combinedwith contemporary cases, and research how to carry forward and develop the pagodas in Zhejiangprovince.
