With the development of society and technology, people are more concerned about their well beings, and modern medical science has evolved into a comprehensive subject covering biography, psychology and sociology. As psychological and social factors play a more importing role in causing disease, medical science is developing towards the mode of overall science, hence the design of hospital buildings should adapt itself to the development of medical science accordingly. Modern hospital buildings are mostly centered on the patients and seldom concerning about the needs of working staff and care takers, neglecting the promoting effect of indirect environment in comprehensive recovery on patients. In this study the concept of construction of healing environment is accordingly introduced into the design of hospital buildings to provide users with better feeling of space so as to archive goals like promoting recovery, easing doctor-patient relationship and improving working efficiency of doctors. The social relationship inside hospital buildings is launched around medical staff, patients and their families. Hence, we select space of waiting room, consulting room and ward, where group behaviors of them cross most tightly with each other. Firstly, through gathering and analysis of existing theories of construction of healing environment and domestic and overseas outstanding cases, we obtained knowing about the current situation of construction of healing environment in hospital buildings. Then we selected typical cases as representatives and investigated their environment space on the spot. Influence of space on user behavior was estimated through distant observation of users, while feelings and requirements were obtained through interviews and questionnaire. Finally, based on the investigating results and analysis of interaction between users and environment space, we proposed optimization strategies on construction of healing environment accordingly.Through research, it is found that existing design of hospital buildings pays enough attention to direct environment which interacts with patients directly, and fails to realize the importance of indirect environment which doesn’t interact with patients directly. In the present study, we lay particular stress on the construction of indirect environment, utilize design method to improve space quality of indirect environment, advocate medical and family care, and promote the healing and recovery process of patients through emotion delivery and behavior of users. On the base of investigation and analysis on the spot, we propose following optimization strategies on the construction of healing environment:Through research into the service conditions of hospital buildings, it is found that existing design of hospital buildings pays enough attention to direct environment which interacts with patients directly, and fails to realize the importance of indirect environment which doesn’t interact with patients directly. In the present study, we utilize design method to improve healing environment, particularly the space quality of indirect environment, advocate medical and family care, and promote the healing and recovery process of patients through emotion delivery and behavior of users. On the construction of healing environment, we seek for the balance between direct and indirect environment, arrange privacy, safety, introduction of natural elements, colors and material quality comprehensively. On the base of investigation and analysis on the spot, we propose corresponding optimization strategies for consulting space, waiting space, ward and other social service space. Through optimizing the direct and indirect environment of space in hospital buildings and coordinate the needs of patients, caregivers and doctors, we further perfect the space of environment in hospital buildings.
