Confucius has once said, "One’s personality and characters are firstly built up by learning poem, and accumulated by learning manners, while eventually accomplished by learning music. "The libraries of art schools, as one important material carrier of the whole academy and even the community’s cultural symbol, does not only provide a place for all kinds of information and knowledge, but also stands for institutions’social attributes. With the development of open-shelf management model of college libraries, the extension of comprehensive diversity of library space functions, and the expansion of its responsibilities, as long as the challenges which are brought up by informatization and intelligentization, the design of a modern library in art schools and colleges differs. That is to say, their customized space needs, presentation requirements of rooms division, adaptability of both outdoor and indoor environment, and targeted service audience’s psychology and physical behaviors’differentiation must, and should be considered separately. In other words, the art school library redesign requires transplantation of innovation work.Based on the background knowledge, and under the view of environmental psychology theory, this thesis is focused on the reading space of art school libraries. According to relevant literature review, research investigation, domestic and international experience reference acquisition, the author aims at summarizing the existing problems of interior environment of art school libraries. With the implementation of the environmental consciousness theory, the cognitive theory of environment and the spatial behavior theory, the author outlines the main direction in terms of school library design, sums up the designing methods and principles, and brings up the idea of a dynamic design philosophy to meet the environmental psychology demand of the users. Therefore, we can apply the theory into practice in terms of library design, guide and improve reading space, while satisfying the actual human needs, which, as a result, can combine the relationship of environment and mankind to its full, and reflect the humanism, modernity and sustainable development value of interior design.
