In late Ming Dynasty, Jiangnan has been through enormous changes in social,economic, cultural and other aspects.Promoted by these factors,the aspiration of the literati to cultivate their heart and nature made enjoying the fun of landscape an essential and urgent need, which made the constructing of gardens entered an unprecedented heyday..In the Ming Dynasty, Wuxi County is a member of the Changzhou Prefecture which located in the water network center of Jiangnan--hinderland of the Taihu Lake basin. The site of the county took advantage of the great shape of Xishan and Huishan mountain system and made Xishan and Huishan area the excellent area for garden constructing. Including the famous Zou Garden Yugong Valley known as one of "The Four Great Gardens of Jiangnan".This research collects Wuxi county annals since the Yuan Dynasty and Ming Dynasty, literati’s notes and corpuses and study on Ecological Culture of this area to figure out the fundamental state of Wuxi Xi Huishan garden.And focus on the research and restoration of Yugong Valley to analyze the gardening method and artistic attainments.First, the research and analysis of the formation of basis of Wuxi garden in late Ming Dynasty.From Jiangnan area in late Ming Dynasty, especially the three aspects of social economy basis, humanity basis and natural geographical environment basis of Wuxi area.The research content is about general mood of society and literati social activities in Jiangnan in late Ming Dynasty, and characteristic of "shape" of the site selection of Wuxi county.Secondly, the investigation and analysis of the formation of basis, constructing background and general situation of garden constructing of Wuxi garden in late Ming Dynasty. The key object of research and analysis is Xi Hui Garden in middle and late Ming Dynasty. Detailed analysis and logical deduction of the relationship between the ancient gardens and the ancient city reflected in the progress of site selecting and the influence of literati’s activity to the formation of the garden.Thirdly, the detailed research and restoration work of Yugong Valley which once well-known but lost in the history.The study is according to Zou Diguang’s poetry and other ralated ancient literature. Based on "Yugong Gucheng",constructing Yugong Valley from the perspective of Tourism, then reappear the gardening situation.Analyse the garden constructing concept and comparative analysis with Jichang Garden,a famousgarden in the same period.At last, fill the gap in this field by studying Yugong Valley, the representative of Wuxi ancient gardens from a professional perspective. Hoping to provide some reference for future research and analysis for the garden history in Wuxi area.
